Aquarium of the Bay is a unique nature center dedicated to inspiring conservation of the San Francisco Bay and all marine environments.
364 days a year, Aquarium of the Bay invites San Francisco Bay Area residents and visitors from around the world to get up close and personal with more than 20,000 local marine animals. Visitors will be delighted by marine life ranging from regal sevengill sharks to graceful bat rays to colorful sea stars.
The 50,000 square foot facility features 300 feet of crystal clear acrylic tunnels holding over 700,000 gallons of filtered Bay water. The San Francisco Aquarium is home to over 20,000 aquatic animals. During your visit, you'll walk with sharks, touch bat rays, and learn why it is so important that we preserve the distinctive ecosystems that support a rich and diverse aquatic life. The San Francisco Aquarium also encompasses three touch pools and numerous other displays.
Each day is filled is a wide range of special events - from shark feedings to story hours to behind the scenes tours. Special events like Earthfest and Year of the Frog Leap Day round out this year's annual calendar. Aquarium of the Bay San Francisco is open every day except for December 25th. Hours vary seasonally.
Aquarium of the Bay San Francisco is conveniently located next to PIER 39 at The Embarcadero and Beach Street. A special admission discount program supports the use of public transportation, and for those who prefer driving, public parking facilities are located just across from our main entrance.
